He nodded. "Yeah, that thug has been lurking around your house again."

"I know. But he didn't do anything threatening. I don't think he'll be back tonight."

Joe didn't seem convinced. "So you want me to leave?"

"No!" The word was out before she could stop it. She spun around out of the doorway, heard him come inside and shut the door behind him. "There's a bedroom on the second floor you can use, unless you want to remain on the first floor to warch for bogeymen."

"Rowen," he said.

"What?" Slowly she turned around.

He looked at her intensely. "If I'm going to protect you, I'll need to be a lot closer to you thana that."
